Simple and Healthy Breakfast Ideas for the Family

Breakfast is the meal that helps jumpstart and fuel our days. For many families, breakfast means quickly throwing something together such as a bowl of cereal or porridge. To boost nutrients and make something that everything in the family will appreciate, consider trying these special breakfast recipes.

Deviled Egg Sailboats


12 hard-boiled eggs

2 tbsp. mayonnaise

2 tsp. Dijon mustard

2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

1/4 tsp. kosher salt

1/8 tsp. Freshly ground black pepper

Tortilla Chips, Celery Leaves, or Sliced Peppers for Topping


  1. Slice the eggs in half and separate the yolks into a large bowl. Mix in the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Pour the yolk mixture into a sandwich bag. Clip the corner and slowly pipe the mixture into the egg whites
  3. Use tortilla chips, celery leaves, sliced peppers, or a number of other healthy and tasty veggies for the sails on top.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies




2 ripe large bananas

1 cup oats

1/2 cup raisins


  1. Using a fork, mash up the bananas in a large bowl. Once mashed well, add in the raisins and oatmeal and mix well.
  2. Use a rounded tablespoon to place drops on a parchment covered cookie sheet.
  3. Bake at 375F for 10 to 12 minutes. Allow to cool before serving for a quick and tasty breakfast.

Ham and Cheese Scones


2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp. baking powder

2 tsp. sugar

1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper, plus more for sprinkling

4 tbsp. cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

3 oz. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (about 1 cup)

3 oz. thinly sliced ham, torn into pieces (about a ¾ cup)

1 tbsp. fresh thyme, plus more for sprinkling

1 cup plus 1 tbsp. cold heavy cream


  1. Preheat oven to 400F and line a cookie sheet or baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Add in the butter by cutting it into the flour mixture using two knives or a pastry cutter, and add in cheese, ham, and thyme. Stir in cream.
  4. Roll out dough, cut into triangles and place on sheet. Sprinkle with thyme and pepper. Bake 18 to 22 minutes.
