Right now in BC is peak berry season and whether you’ve stocked up at the farmers’ market, picked your own berries or grabbed a few baskets from your favourite grocery store in Vancouver, you might find yourself wondering what to do with all those gems before they go bad.
What’s great about berries is that they’re so incredibly versatile. Whether you’re making breakfast, baking some sweet treats, enjoying a refreshing drink or a savoury salad, here are some creative and delicious ways to put that seasonal stash of goodies to good use.

Homemade popsicles
Frozen berry popsicles are a refreshing escape from the heat and one that’s especially delicious when you make them yourself.
Puree strawberries or raspberries with a squeeze of lemon juice and a drizzle of honey or agave. Fill some molds and freeze. If you’re looking for a creamier popsicle, mix in some coconut milk or vanilla yogurt. Kids love them and there’s no added colourings or preservatives.
Bake up a summer classic
Berries shine especially bright in baked goods. Mix a cup of organic blueberries into your favourite muffin or scone mix or make a mixed berry crisp using rolled oats, coconut oil and some maple syrup. Blackberries can even be used to add a tart twist to banana bread. All of your organic baking essentials can be found at our health foods store.
Make your own berry jam
Making a homemade jam is actually much easier than you might think. Combine fresh berries with lemon juice and sugar or honey and simmer until thickened. Throw in chia seeds for some texture and a healthy bonus, with no pectin needed. Spread your jam on toast, mix into oatmeal or add it to a cheese platter. It’s the perfect way to make summer last a little longer.
Savoury salads
Berries aren’t just for desserts! Try mixing some sliced strawberries with organic arugula, toasted almonds and goat cheese. Add blueberries to a quinoa salad or cucumber, mint and a light vinaigrette. They add a delicious burst of sweetness and colour.
Whether they’re frozen, baked or jammed, berries are this season’s star. Head over to Famous Foods, your neighbourhood health foods store and grocery store in Vancouver and pick up some organic berries and everything else you need to serve them in style.
