4 Ways to Cook With Bacon on International Bacon Day

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

Bacon connoisseurs will be glad to know that the world has set aside a day to celebrate this popular cured meat. International Bacon Day is the first Saturday of September, and in 2021 this date falls on September 4. This Bacon Day, you can fall back on your favourite bacon dish or try it in new ways.

Here are some bacon recipes that are certain to delight anyone who relishes this world-famous food.

1. Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich (BLT) The BLT is easy to make and supremely tasty. The crispiness of the lettuce matches that of the bacon while juicy tomato compliments the salty meat perfectly. Toast the bread of your choice, slather it with mayonnaise, and layer in the bacon, tomato, and romaine lettuce. Make sure that the tomato touches the bacon. Great variations are cucumber slices instead of lettuce or the addition of avocado.

2. Warm Bacon Slaw Bacon pairs marvelously with vegetables. To make the warm bacon slaw, drain and crumble six cooked slices of bacon. Mix 2 tablespoons of brown sugar with 1/4 cup of water and 1/4 cup of cider vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon of celery seeds. Pour this into the reserved bacon drippings and add some sliced red onion. Toss the crumbled bacon and liquid mixture with 7 cups of shredded cabbage. 3. Bacon Fettuccine Alfredo Boil some fettuccine noodles and prepare your preferred alfredo sauce whether that’s from scratch or out of a jar. Cook bacon slices until crispy and then crumble. Blend the crumbled bacon into the sauce and serve on noodles. 4. Bacon and Egg Hash Eggs simply demand a place at the table on International Bacon Day. Use this bacon recipe for breakfast or any meal. We won't tell if you’re whipping up this skillet meal at 9 p.m. This dish uses diced potatoes, olive oil, diced bacon, green onions, eggs, and shredded cheese. Fry up the potatoes first in the olive oil. When they are cooked, add the bacon and continue pan frying until bacon is crispy. Crack in eggs, and sprinkle with cheese and green onions. Serve once eggs have cooked through. International Bacon Day deserves the best bacon from the finest farms.
