5 Dazzling Lemonade Recipes to Stay Cool and Hydrated This Summer

The heat wave in Vancouver this years serves as a reminder that hydration is important. Take care of yourself deliciously with these wonderful lemonade recipes.



1. Standard Old Fashioned Lemonade

Boil 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of water until it dissolves completely. Add the desired amount of cooled syrup to 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and 8 cups of cold water. Serve on ice and garnish with lemon slices.


2. Watermelon Lemonade

To make 12 servings, puree 4 cups of watermelon chunks. Press the mash through a sieve. Boil 1/2 cup sugar in 1/2 cup water until dissolved. Stir 3 cups of cold water and 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice into sugar water. Scoop some watermelon puree into glasses filled with ice cubes. Fill glasses with lemonade mixture.


3. Raspberry Peach Lemonade

Begin by heating 1/4 cup agave nectar in 1 cup of water. After 1 minute, add 6 ounces of raspberries and the slices from 3 peaches. Stir the fruit while it simmers in the syrup.


Puree the fruit mixture in a blender. Strain the cooled mixture through a sieve. In a pitcher, stir together the fruit mixture, 1 cup lemon juice, and 5 cups cold water. Serve with ice.


4. Strawberry Rhubarb Lemonade

Boil 3-1/2 cups of water and add 1 pound of chopped rhubarb along with 1/3 cup of honey and the zest of 2 lemons. Cover the pot and simmer for 15 minutes. During the last 3 minutes, add 3 cups of sliced strawberries. Allow the mixture to cool and then blend with 1-1/2 cups fresh lemon juice.


5. Cucumber Mint Lemonade

Prepare a basic syrup by boiling 1-1/2 cups sugar in 1-1/2 cups water along with 4 sprigs of fresh mint. After sugar dissolves, turn off heat and let mint steep in hot syrup. Discard mint.


Now peel and slice cucumbers and puree them in a blender. Add a little water as necessary to encourage consistent blending. Drain the cucumber mash through a sieve and collect 1-1/2 cups of cucumber juice. Combine the cucumber juice with the mint syrup, 5-1/2 cups water, and 1-1/2 cups fresh lemon juice. Garnish drinks with cucumber slices and mint leaves.
