The New Year is officially upon us! While 2022 was an admittedly up-and-down year, we can now look back with hindsight to see how far we’ve come and look ahead to where we’d like to go.

The dawn of a new year brings a proverbial smörgåsbord of possibilities. Still, it can also be associated with the pressure to completely switch gears and change our habits for the better, albeit often temporarily, through the stress of New Year’s resolutions.

But don’t worry! We’re here today to suggest some fun-filled, food-fuelled resolutions for 2023 that you can actually keep.

Try cooking different cuisines

It’s easy to fall into the same routine rotation of recipes (say that ten times fast!). This new year, why not spice things up by trying something new?

Experimentation can be a rewarding and fun endeavour that leads you to fusions and flavours you may not have imagined or discovered you like. So, test out those new fish tacos. Try your hand at rolling roti. Brag to your friends about your fresh favourite baklava.

The world is your oyster!

Go meatless/incorporate meatless options

In the same realm of experimentation, the options for meatless substitutions have never been more abundant. Whether you’re looking to go vegetarian or want to decrease your carbon footprint by incorporating Meatless Mondays into your routine, there’s never been a better time to try!

You never know. You might not even miss it.

Grow your own ingredients

Depending on where you live, the weather might not be conducive in January for outdoor harvesting, but growing your own ingredients can be an enriching and gratifying experience, not to mention a fulfilling hobby.

You can start basic, like purchasing one of the already-bloomed basil plants from your grocery store and increase the challenge from there by planting easy-to-grow veggies, such as lettuce, tomatoes, and beans.

It’s the best way to reap what you sow, literally!

Learn how to use new kitchen devices

Smaller kitchen appliances and tools have been a common gift idea in the past few holiday seasons. Still, they can just as frequently become a box that remains unopened while taking up space.

Like any other new skill, it just takes some practice. So, unbox that air fryer or make a new friend with your new mixer. As we said before, experimenting should be fun. Even if things don’t turn out 100% right the first time, you can always try again.

It could be the key to unlocking your new favourite go-to recipe.
